Founded in 2018 in Ivins, Utah, at Vista School of Academics, Arts, and Technology, the Youth Symphony of Southern Utah has become a distinguished ensemble for talented young musicians.
This esteemed group was inspired by the visionary leadership of Ms. Kelly Geary, former Vista Assistant Principal, and Linda Ghidossi-DeLuca, a Juilliard graduate, celebrated musical director, and the 2019 Utah Teacher of the Year as recognized by the American String Teachers Association.
The Youth Symphony of Southern Utah is an audition-only orchestra, open to dedicated 8th–12th-grade students from St. George and surrounding areas. Participants rehearse weekly on Thursday afternoons at Vista School and showcase their talents at numerous musical venues throughout the year.
This season, the Youth Symphony has been honored with the prestigious opportunity to perform both a pre-show and a side-by-side concert with the Southwest Symphony, under the baton of Maestro Lucas Darger.
Members of the Youth Symphony collaborate with like-minded peers who share a deep commitment to music, fostering both personal and artistic growth. This rigorous and rewarding program provides an unparalleled opportunity for young musicians to excel and develop their craft.
For those chosen to participate, the Youth Symphony of Southern Utah offers not just an education in music but a pathway to excellence and lifelong appreciation for the arts.
